Vintage Stanley 62 : replacement blade needed !!!

Hello guys,
I've recently purchased a nice vintage Stanley 62 plane,
It came with a very good sweetheart blade and because I'm also a collector,
I would not want to use the original blade ... I'll save it for posterity :wink:
This is why I'm looking for a replacement blade I can use and sharpen as much as I want !!!
Do you have any suggestion ???

Many years ago I purchased a replacement from Lie-Nielsen. It is slightly thicker than the original, which I also have (no, I'm keeping it! ). I don't think that LN make them any more, but it is worth contacting them. Also try Ron Hock and Ray Isles. Otherwise I would make one.

If its the same as the lie neilsen then a rider blade from Axminster will fit (it fits my L-N)

I use one for a 50 degree grind to tackle lively grain

This is the Stanley #62 blade (Googled for image) ...

This will help others determine if there is an alternative make as a replacement. Note it is 2" wide.

Here are some pictures of my Stanley 62 plane before starting cleaning/restoration !!!
As Derek already said it is 50 mm wide and 120 mm long 8)

It appears that Axminster Rider and LN share a blade fitting style, QuengShenng is different again.

NONE of these will fit a Stanley.

It's the millings/holes on the back (the ones that engage the adjuster) that vary.

If you look at the first link, there is a photo of the back of the Woodriver iron, the milled adjustment slots look very similar to the Stanley pictured above to my eye at least. Admittedly, until you get one and offer it up you wouldn't be sure. But it is not too expensive to take a punt ?

I didn't see that - given that we KNOW the width of the iron, you could view that picture as "calibrated" and pixel count. Do the same with a "real" Stanley, and you'd have a very good idea of the fit.
