Hi,
These Veritas clamps,

Are available in the UK but strike me as being very expensive. Are cheaper alternatives available? The nylon ones are fine for use in my carving bench, which will be my first woodworking project. The Veritas version might come in handy clamping down the work piece right on the edge, instead of on top of it.
Are there cheaper types of clamps that would do the same job?
Ta,
Peter.

I've got a few of those Axminster ones. I couldn't bring myself to pay the cost of the Veritas version.

They're a bit crude, not particularly well finished and the swivel pin fell out of one of them. But they do the job and I suppose that's what matters.

You can see them on my (partially completed) workbench below

Ok cheers, I'm not happy paying that amount for the Veritas clamps either :)

Toolstation has them for £4.65 a pair, page 126 of their catalogue, (which dropped through my letterbox this morning.)
Ok cheers.
