Don't you mean a VB36? Amazing piece of kit.

The smoothness of running has to be felt to be believed. Wassat? Probably the best "new" lathe design in the UK since WWII - take a look at the VB web site. The VB in the name are for Nigel Voisey (author and designer) and Roger Buse (he of Roger's fame for those who can remember back before even Sargents of Reading and well before APTC)

Mark Baker of Woodturning magazine has one - they've always looked a very impressive piece of kit;the ultimate lathe for bowl-turning.
Not been lucky enough to see one "in the flesh" yet :(

Do you reckon you could turn pen blanks on that??
Philly

I reckon so

Do you have another lathe available? The reason I ask is that you don't need a dedicated pen lathe to turn pens... or any miniatures for that matter. (I once turned a 3mm dia apple on a VB36 )

The ultimate "large lathe, small job" combination

I would love one but then I would need some heavy lifting gear and some big chain saws and a huge band saw and some help getting stuff on an off the lathe and lots of new chucks and lots of bigger chisels and I would need to win the lottery to afford the new workshop.

They are fantastic lathes but not many people use them to the full potential because of the other big stuff you need to go with it.

I'd have bought one but couldn't afford the fork lift

Have to admit that for miniature work they're a bit heavy when it comes to minor toolrest alterations

Mark Baker has been Managing Director of Hegner UK (also VB Manufacturing) since 31st January 2005. Roger Buse is now Chairman and Company Secretary.

The factory/warehouse is just 20 minutes from where I live and a visit is quite "drooly." Sheila and Bernie make you welcome, although prospective customers need to ring ahead, in case the staff are out delivering and installing. :)

Ray.
