Vacuum power take off

I got myself a Dewalt 626 recently and used it for the first time today, hooked up to the power take off point on my Fein extractor.

2nd cut - the fuse blew in the plug on the Fein cable. It seems that the startup of the router together with the startup of the extractor was too much for a 13a fuse. The only way to get it to work (after replacing the fuse) was to start the router up, then switch on the extractor. Which kind of defeats the point of the power take off.

The Fein has a power take off rating of 2000w (the DW is 2300w :roll: ). I see that the Festool extractors are rated at 2400w. Is the only solution to upgrade the vac to a Festool? Or can anything else be done so that the DW can be used with the Fein (not to include replacing the fuse with a bolt (homer) )?

Is the vac itself directly plugged into a decent wall socket? The only reason I ask is that when my big TS was blowing the fuse connecting it to a decently wired up plug cured it blowing the fuse in its plug over and over.

My festool vac is delayed in starting up with the tool, perhaps this is the secret to its slightly higher rating? You are lucky that you can just replace the fuse, I remember when Olly put a tool in his RSDE2-A that was to high powered and blew the whole auto circuit which cost him quite a bit to replace!

Final question, does it still blow the fuse if you start the router on a lower power?

Maybe someone makes a current sensor relay module with two separate 13 amp plugs, one for the vac and one for the tool.

You might find if you start the router on low speed and increase it once the vac is up to speed you *might* get away with it?

I use a Record Power WVE002 which does just that.

How does that help??

It looks like it still feeds everything off a single 13a plug or have I mis understood? Maybe you can hook it up to a 16amp power source.

This was meant to be used for site use (worktops), but I may have a re-think and fit it to my router table instead.

Switching the extractor on after the router is too much of a PITA, as is starting the router on lower speed and increasing it (that would get frustrating when cutting worktops).

I have no control over the "quality" of the sockets in other peoples houses, and a 16a supply is obviously out of the question.

I'll just have to hope it fits in the table.

I have a cheapy screw fix Erbauer vac with power take off, it has a ten second delay from when you switch on the tool to when the vac comes on, this seems to help with the power surge at start up.

I use a Dewalt 626 (110 volt) all the time on my Festool midi with no problems touch wood

I tried one of those computer extensions that has a"master" and 4 slaves with my miter saw and shop vac. I was planning to bin it anyhow as we now have laptops so if it blew up there would be no great loss.

To my surprise it works really well and shows no sign of overheating or fuse blowing. It cost 9 quid.

I also have the De Walt but the 625 model. I use mine on a power takeoff on a cheap Lidl vacuum without any problems?

I have been using my Fein extractor with my Festool 2200 router (which I assume to be 2200W) - this has not had any problems, although it does appear to exceed the "maxmum safe load" on the power take off which the instructions do indeed state as 2000W.

The Fein itself states it is 1200W (1400W max). So I suspect I have been on the margins of the 13A fuse!
