I saw this advertised locally. I have never seen anything like it before. What would it be used for?

That must be for veneered board, like those fancy saws that have a scoring blade before the main cutting blade. :unsure: ;)
 
It's so you can have one iron POLISHED to perfection perfection with a really tight mouth and the other attacked with bit of rough concrete for 30seconds with the *ahem* chip breaker set really close so you can leave the mouth wide open.

This ensuring impossibility of not achieving exactly the right level of glassy smooth surfaces and just smooth enoughness across the board, preventing any arguments about how you did it wrong despite the results being more than acceptable. And in doing so breaking woodworking forums and by extension the whole internet and inducing the end of civilization as we know it.

It's pretty rare and as such worth £10000 but collection only on eBay and you shouldn't take a penny less even if evidence suggests no one cares and it remains unsold.
