Interesting variation on the block plane. I'm trying to imagine what the large grip would be useful for?

i know just dont look right, strange little things arnt they have you ever seem the like?

The one without the odd handle is a variation on a common theme, hopefully someone knows what the other one is all about.

whats the boston about? is it just a American cheapo. i know i ask alot of question but i just love to know the history and every thing about the tools i won

The rabbit ear shaped one, looks a bit like they're wanting you to grip that bit with your thumb and forefingers, with ring and little fingers extended along one side of the plane body...

I met someone once with a collection of Boston aluminium planes. He didn't know much about the history either but thought that they had probably been pitched at the diy market in the 1940s-50s and were not very good to use. One big problem with them is that old aluminium can develop a nasty pock-marked appearance - yours seem to be heading that way but are not too bad. Do you find that they leave black marks on the wood?

i havent used them yet, going to clean them up and give them a service. then have a go but i dont think they will be that good but at same time wanted them, only got them yesterday. £3 each. not bad.
should i strip them and repaint, or just get grime off and leave original finish (ugly)
these badboys are just a collection thing reli i have other tools to do the work.

Yours is a but pricy for me ;)
How wired never seen that type before and now seen 2 in a few days. Comical.
I like the selling not extra rust made me giggle.

Hi,
This Boston block plane for sale on e-bay packaging would suggest that planes were made in Bridgend, South Wales by the Thomas Machine Co Ltd

hope this helps...

Good info, thank you.

The London Gazette shows "Welsh Industries (Bridgend)" dissolved as a company, Feb 1962.
