I suppose boxes are to woodworkers what bowls are to woodturners. A way to show off a skill and the beauty of wood.

I have been researching Jewellery boxes over the past couple of months and collated this list of boxes posted in the Projects section of this forum going back to day one.

This is how far I have got. If you know of any I have missed or link broken, please post them here. I will try to keep it up to date and it can serve as a kind of book of inspiration to future box makers. It's a shame we can't have the ability to post pictures directly to the site so that they don't disappear.

you are spending far too much time in front of this monitor [-X

You need to get out more. Fit some lights in the shed and continue bashing the chisel heads. (hammer)

I can only manage a few hours out there John and then the pain wonders in and starts nagging me to stop. Praps its a sign of the times, but without much on telly, missus and I just sit here with our laptops (well she's got a pile of wedding mags .  ) I've have been a computer nerd since my Dad bought me a Spectrum 48k. Square Eyes.

You lot ain't gonna get rid of my ramblings unless you can have a whip round for a private back op :D

;)

If you know of any I have missed ....... please post them here.

Rob (Woodbloke) did a very nice one with secret mitre dovetails and curved sides, for his competition entry. Also Pete (Newt) has done some very nice ones over the last year. Don't have any links, I'm afraid :(

Cheers

How much of a computer nerd are you, I may need the advice of a techy in the near future

I'm an IT Consultant for the largest Media organisation in the world. I haven't built a PC for about 10yrs but I know a bit about hardware. For the past 10yrs all my PC's and Laptops have been supplied by the company.

Cheers Paul. I thought I'd got thrpugh the whole list but I'm actually only halfway through. I'll continue to update it over the next few days.

Don't even think about it Tom......

.......over 90% of back operations do no good whatsoever, or even make things worse. See a good physio first. I can put you in touch with the cricket club physio from my days at Essex, if you can travel to Chelmsford......he is a real back expert (although a bit of a PITA, and he is my BIL!!). For goodness sake, operations are a potential nightmare.

PM me.

Mike

Chas is that something you've just started or an abandoned project? I'll probably continue updating this list later tonight.

Just put it together from your references as an example.

Unfortunately although easy to do in html form it is difficult to do in table form so that it displays directly on the forum, the php forum software is not fully html compliant.

Alternate layouts that are a little easier, but still not easy, needing a lot of hands on formatting control can be seen in the lathe list and critique stickies in the turning forum.

ok thanks Chas. I'll keep it in a list form for now and when it's complete I may have a word with Charley to see if he wants to give us a page for stuff like this. Workbenches is a similar category, as is tables, etc.

No I don't have any of the old pics they seem to be disapear without warning. If I come across a thread where the pics have gone then I don't list it.

Thanks for laying it out like that. I'm a semi-trained web developer so I can chuck together a design if that's required or if your happy to take it over. Just thought it might be nice to make it easy for people when trying to find inspiration. If I'm already spending the time researching it, I might as well publish my findings.

Oddly enough Mike, My BIL is an Oesteo. I saw him for 18 months before I tried a Chiropractor. I then tried Pilates for 9months (4 times a week). I got on the NHS merry go round and have been through their physios and seen Rhumeatology consultants, neuro consultants, private consultants, supposed experts on the NHS. It's a nightmare mate. I know what your saying about not having the op. But in the past 6yrs it's got worse and worse and it's heading towards me losing my job and becoming 'disabled'. This last 'attack' put me in bed for 2 weeks and that's a scary thought. If that happens again then it's good bye employment. So you've got that on one side of the scales and then the risk of improvement through surgery.

It's a huge saga which I've rambled all too often on this forum. I'm just glad I'm getting in the workshop again, even if it is for a couple of hours a day.

OK Wizer, what several similar listings could do with is some PHP software similar to the Rogues Gallery that generates a display from a simple text listing but with the ability to link to a url database/list or similar.

That way the editing/maintaining work load would be minimal.
