Hi all

Had a bonus day off today and while waiting for the replacement bushings for my next Americana (a roller ball this time) I did a couple more slimlines.

Spalted beech:

and both together:

Did a better job making the tubes even this time.

Smart looking pens Stewart, don't know how you tackled it but I often use a flat sided block of wood behind an abrasive sheet to get that final straight cylinder form that looks so elegant with a slimline.

Nice work - amazing how much black trim transforms the look!
(and like the mirror photo trick as well :D )

Andrew

Once again stewart, lovely pens. i really like the mirror reflection on 1 pen, i feel that 2 or more pens and it gets too complicated and busy. Try it on a satin silver board too, another idea.

Hi Stewart looks like two kits from The Turners Workshop.
Very very nice finish, like the straight lines, you are becoming the main man 8)
Its a great hobby enjoy :D

Thanks for the tip, Chas - will give it a try.

Thanks, Andrew - I really like the black so will be getting a few more kits. I've got this plan to make a pen for each pupil in my GCSE English class as an end of year present - I'll only need to make 28!

Steve, know what you mean - I'll have to keep an eye out for bases to photograph more than one pen on.

Have to say, though, that after making the Americana, slimlines seem a little less exciting - but I'm pleased with the finish I got on the spalted beech.

Now to try a segmented blank...

Hi John - they are indeed kits from The Turners Workshop. Have to say that his service is excellent - I've ordered some more Americana blanks and have been in email contact with him about the length of the endposts on the Americana kit and he's going to send me a couple of blanks free for the ones I blew out (even though they didn't come from him in the first place) and replacement bushings! I know where my money is going to be spent in future.
