WOW!!

I love these George, absolutely love them. Something a would like to turn myself someday. Well done. I really like the texture and colour.

They are excellent George. I've seen a few like this, one of the aussie turners dose some but certainly no better IMHO. Amazing what you can do with a blowtorch and a wire brush. And no sandpaper in sight

Nice pieces Geo, have used the wire brush on soft grained wood and it has turned out fine. I dont think I'd be any good at carving. Is yours done with a router or dremel looks super. REgards Boysie

got to agree with the others george beautiful stuff, almost like a tulip flower waiting to burst into bloom, and i love the texture too.

George, you come up with the most extraordinary shapes.
A real flair for design.
Love them both. =D> =D> =D> =D>

These look lovely.
The shapes you turn are really fantastic.
I was watching some of the Chelsea flower show coverage and there was a garden called the potters garden (I think.) There were some pots on a shelf that really reminded me of your style.

generally Im not a fan of carved stuff (with some noted exceptions) but those are fantastic - amazing job! Thanks for inspiring us :)

I really like these George. When you char the wood, does it still retain a burnt aroma? Also, have you tried ebonising oak with a vinegar/iron mixture? If so, how do the results compare with the above treatment?

hello PAC no burnt smell remains on these pieces as they were sprayed black after burning- if i am just burning i always apply a matt/satin laquer afterwards so that the black doesnt rub of on your hands etc

yes i have used the vinegar wire wool treatment- it will create a very black colour but obviously no texture- intresting results can be got with that method if you squirt it on with a syringe or dip it in a bucket then allow it to drip dry.

Ok, might try that technique as real ebony is a little on the pricey side. Do you get a lingering smell of vinegar afterwards?

Your last bit above about syringes and drip drying - are you suggesting that you can create a sort of splash/streak effect?

no smell is left behind on the wood but dont spill the mixture on your clothes as it stinks.

and yes lots of effects can be created using very simple methods like syringes etc
