I appreciate your personal taste, but don't understand why 'Dad's Army' is on your list Greedo.
Unless it's that you are not of the generation that 'gets' the psychology behind the humour.
I think maybe psychology does have a bearing on our appreciation. If you mean that 'Dad's Army', harps back to Laurel & Hardy and so on, I do agree. In fact, I never saw the humour in Charlie Chaplin. L&H yes, but not Chaplin.
Again, it's the psychology that makes you laugh or not! For instance I can't stand the frenetic wailing of Michael McIntyre; Dara O'Brien, is too smarmy and too clever for his own good. Paul Carr is even more smarmy, and his laugh grates my ears. (Although there are some on 'nine-o'clock-news' types whom I do find funny (Merton especially.) There's a black American guy who makes me laugh. But I don't see him anywhere else. He is erudite, and funny. Always a winning combo for me.
But 'Dad's Army' brings back memories of my own Dad, so maybe that's it!
All the best. (Les Dawson was THE MAN!)
PS. 'Darling Buds of May'.
Read the books! (The originals if you can get them.) They are by H.E. Bates for heaven's sake!
