I have finally finished another TV Cabinet, it took me about 2 weeks on and off,
I used redwood pine for the base, I sealed all the knots with de-waxed shellac, painted with 2 layers of primer, then eggshell paint all oil based, and laminated some american white oak for the top piece. Paint dry times aren't good in this weather, it took about 3 days to fully dry!
For the joinery it's stopped dado joints for the shelves on the sides and through dados on the back which are then re-inforced by screws through the back, stub tenons were used for the top and bottom tenons, and the oak top is attached via dado joints.
The top is finished with 5 layers of tung oil, the first 4 thinned out with pure turpentine and tung 50/50 mix, then the final layer was applied wet sanded with 600 grit paper, then left for another 3 days to cure, it's now sitting in my parents lounge, it serves the practical purpose of hiding cables as well as being able to go further into the corner, so more space was gained.
happy with it overall apart from a few tiny details as usual, the top tenon could be just a bit more set back, it was supposed to be more like 5mm but it's closer to 3mm, this would give it more depth.
Hope you like it!
regards,
Ben.
