Hi all this is only my 2nd post as i am new to the forum and to turning in general. I was given a set of turning chisels but i cant figure out what chisel this is and what it is meant to be used for any help would be much appreciated ronnie

They used to be common in sets, I never did find out what they were actually for. Grind it as a skew or a scraper. Modern sets tend to better planned, there always used to be a couple that no one ever used.

I have seen them called a spear point scraper but like Phil I have never had the need for one. That said scrapers can be ground into any shape you need to get a particular bit of work done.

Nobody has been able to figure out a use for them so far. They were manufactured as a tool in search of a need and the need never quite materialized. However they are good for regrinding into something else.
