I've been calling this a basket but a few people who have seen it say trug.
I made it as an excuse to try out some joint ideas i had and it is to go to the allotment to collect vegetables in.
This is the first time i have shared anything i have made so take it easy!

Welcome BM,

someone will sort out your images.......there is a spam trap which wears off soon.

Don't worry, we're a friendly lot here, and generous........so nothing to be nervous about in posting your work. If people don't like something they generally keep quiet.

Mike

Very nice. i'd call it a trug too. Great for bringing back the rhubarb from the veggie patch!

Welcome Bouncy, nice looking trug you've made.
What timber did you make it from :?:

Looks good and welcome to the forum. :) Would be good to hear a little more on how you made this?

Looks like a steamed ash handle, single - dovetailed into V solid ash sides?
I love big dovetails- lots less fiddly than small ones and so impressive.
But how do the slat joints work? Are those wedged dowels in straight holes or tapered holes?

Hi Bouncymat and welcome to the forum. That is very nice work...almost too nice to put dirty veggies in.

It is made from Oak. The handle is laminated (5 layers) and joined to the sides by a large dovetail which i left proud of the surface to make a feature of it. The slats across the bottom are held in place by home made 10mm oak dowels which i have wedged with walnut wedges (sorry not sure what this should be called). I have finished it with 4 coats of finishing oil and 1 of beeswax.

Thankyou for your positive comments. I presented it to my wife this evening who says that it is not allowed to go to the allotment and is going to have magezines in it!!
