Are you in hard water, ie do you get scale.
We don't get scale, but a soak my well be worth it

That looks the same as a ceramic tap cartridge, I'd remove it from the shower and take it to a trade plumbing centre and ask if they have one, make sure you take the control knob so you get one with the right spline to fit the control knob.

Nottingham, so not that hard but it does build up, I have a couple of dripping taps that I am getting round to doing.

Exactly what I thought, I've recently changed the ceramic tap cartridges in our kitchen, absolute piece of cake, as Homers double says you need to check the spline length and count the number of 'teeth', I bought online from Screwfix, two for ~£6

I've taken the gland out and now have it soaking in vinegar - it seems clean but worth a try.

It measures exactly like https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-cer ... _container for spline length and overall length.

Screwfix don't give teeth number, but its 20 teeth which is the same as the bathroom basin taps.

If vinegar doesn't work will go to Screwfix tomorrow.

He told me I should have bought them for a Beetle - they were 85p.

The Q+A section of the Screwfix page you linked to does specify 20 teeth on the 10.5mm spline, so you should be fine.

It will come as no surprise to you, then, that BMW seem to have withdrawn their franchise from bike dealers. You now have to buy your new oilhead (or whatever) from a car showroom. Sad day round here, as Bath Road used to be excellent (I still have an R80 RT, although it's off the road presently).

The clientele for bikes and cars were quite different people. I don't like the cars very much, and wouldn't be seen dead in one of their showrooms (probably!). Time will tell if it's a mistake or not.
