I am thinking of making and/or repairing some doors with Accoya and maybe Tricoya. If I use the Tricoya for visible panels or very wide planks will it have a noticeably different appearance to the Accoya after painting please?

I have recently made two sets of garage doors from Accoya with Tricoya panels - they are not painted yet, so cannot prove it; however, I would expect them to look like any framed and panelled door - ie nothing unusual.

One relevant bit of advice I got from the Accoua technical people was to avoid sanding the Accoya too much - because the growth rings are very wide, you can end up sanding out the pith and this would leave a rippled effect.

Paint wise, they recommended end grain sealer, followed by Zinsser 123-plus, followed by Sikkens paint.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Hi Scholar, many thanks for the info regarding the sanding and the paint advice.
Cheers
