Shocking design from Trend, 2 months purchased, too flimsy, Monday!

Sadly a lot of dust extractin kits are just as bad (e.g. the Makita RT0700). One of the best solutions I have seen is the under base cup type as exemplified by this model from Festool (OF2200 but other Festols are similar):

The dust hood is bottom left and snaps into the base of the router. Extraction is via a tube affixed to the base. A similar hood with a direct extraction nozzle is sold in the USA by Rockler, called a whirlwind dust port:

And Oneida do something similar. These do require a sub base to be made up to accommodate them, so you'd lose 4 to 6mm plunge depth, but it really isn't that difficult to make a sub base

You could try out a Heath Robinson lash up to find if this will work for you - simply slice a coffee cup vertically in two, cut a hole in the side and gaffer tape your dust hose to it, then gaffer tape the half cup to the base if the router. It won't last long but it will be proof of concept. I have used just such a lash up when routing MR-MDF on site and been impressed by the improvement in extraction, but it is mainly for rebating and edge profiling using a bearing guided bit. Other routing tasks may require a different solution

Yes, except for Festool maybe, all manufacturers seem to use plastic that's brittle and mediocre quality.

The under-base cup thingy is great, and I wish it was more universally provided/available, but obviously doesn't suit all routing jobs.

dust extraction on most routers is an afterthought. I have a dewalt 621 which is a version of the elu OF97 where one of teh plunge guide stems is enlarged and acts as the dust collection which is superb. Pity no one carried this design feature on. Probably cost engineering

You're right about the DW620/DW621/OF97 (and their sibling the DW622) - only the Festools can match their dust extraction - well almost. Makita made their own versions of the DW620/DW621 called the RP0910/RP1110 and they use suspiciously simillar dust extraction, as well as being clean tools to use when connected to a vacuum. Even those designs benefit from the "half a coffee cup" modification when edge routing

I have a 2nd hand Focus (remember them?) Champion router jobbie with the same arrangement. Works well unless it blocks at the sharp corner in twixt the base and the tube.
