Have done it with a plane (untoothed) but wouldn't give up my drum sander. It may burn electrons but, particularly for interesting grained hardwoods, it's a lot less fraught!For the sitka, just watch for run out and plane accordingly. For the backs (and ribs) I'd just get close then finish with a scraper after joining.Bear in mind once joined as a bookmatch grain direction reverses at the center line.CheersSteve
