I recently acquired an ex schooll Union Graduate lathe & its now wired in & running, It had quite a bit of tooling including a 4 jaw scroll chuck.
Unfortunately all but one set of jaws were lost.
Its an APTC Toolmex made in poland with part no 3704-100. Im assuming it was originally supplied by Axminster tools.
Question is are spare jaws available & will the newer ones fit it?

Does it look like this one?

iirc I think the Toolmex was just one of the subcontractors axminster used at one time (I have a couple and I think the Polish, earlier ones, were of superior fit and finish to the ones that followed before being brought back in house for the recent incarnations). If so, all the current jaws will still fit.

As SVB says, Yes the current carries should fit, might have to ease the odd edge to ease the fit but nothing significant due to slight tolerance differences. (had to polish the corners/edges on a couple of mine but it was nothing that stopped them 'fitting albeit a little tight)

Watch out as there are now two different length carriers to accommodate the new larger diameter chuck, best match will be the shorter versions but both versions should fit the scroll.

Its similar to the one in the photo except it has imterchangeable jaws each attached by 2 allen screws.
Seems like i might be ok!

This is one of mine.

The fact that yours is 4 jaw self centring I think it's odds on it's the same scroll size.

Yep- that's fine Keith. The jaws in the photo are similar to engineering jaws. Most turning jaws are mounted on a set of carriers with two allen bolts as you describe. All fit on the same scroll pitch.

(worth looking at Axminster's clearence section, they had a range of jaws mounted on carriers for half price recently so if you need some worth a look sooner rather than later).

The Toolmex chucks are one incarnation of the super precision chucks so any of the Axminster jaws should fit it and the current jaw carriers will fit it too.
