managed to grab a couple of hours in the cabin today, just messing about with scraps of wood, finished off the mushroom doug started, and did a couple in iroko, and played with a piece of pine 5 inch square and 1 in deep, tried to leave the edges flat.
all in all not a bad day playing wise apart from the goblet, grrr.

Not to bad a day then Steve.

Looks like a nice finish you achieved on the pine piece.
What did you use as a finish on the mushrooms, the yew one looks so glossy, well done.

hi doug
finish was just BLO on the iroko and friction polish on the yew, just sanding sealer on the pine, i do like the smell of pine.

Hello Steve
I like the shape of the mushrooms alot, I have tried several lately and none have looked quite right.

The smell of Pine is nice :D
A kid came into class a few weeks ago after we had been ripping some lengths of Pine for a project.
He said "It rate smells like B&Q in ere sir."

They can be great at times

All nice stuff,Steve - the mushrooms look good, and the shape of the pine piece makes it interesting;shows a nice grain pattern :D

Hi Steve

Good efforts there Steve :) I would like to see the profile of the bowl though for a better feel of it. Good finish with pine there too, did it take much sanding?

hi jt
yes it took quite a bit of sanding, more than i should have done concidering its only a play piece.
here are a few more pics of the bowl, you may notice in the last shot the damaged corner, i dropped it while trying to photograph it.

It looks nice in profile Steve :D A very gentle curve.

I can see a few ripples/ridges in the pics, when I get these I find with couple of very light passes with the gouge over them I can remove them pretty well or a gentle scraping with a very sharp scraper works wonders.
Also I have a jacobs chuck that I put in the headstock with one of those velcro sanding pads that I can present the piece to by hand, which is very effective at sanding any really awkward spots and for sanding the last bit in the middle of feet.
