Well it arrived this morning but after a quick look i cant help wondering why they didnt just invest in a decent website. i scrolled through the first 20 or so pages and there seems to be some good items for sale, but a website would be much easier to use

Mine arrived, too.
As you say, a waste of time. Painful PDF format catologue - a website (with SEARCH!!) would of been nice.
Sigh...........
Philly :D

I just don't understand it? I'd love to hear why they think putting money into this CD was more effective for their business than a simple website? I'd be willing to bet that a website would have been cheaper, even in the short term.

Haven't seen the cd as yet but a website with search and commerce facilities would cost far more to develop and implement than a pdf catalogue on a cd regardless of distribution numbers. Which is not to say that the latter is more effective or a better use of resources at all but might go some way to understanding why it's been done this way perhaps.

Cheers Mike

I believe - and I hope I am not doing anyone a disservice here, I'm picking my words very carefully in case they are misconstrued - that the people behind Tilgear are members of a religious movement that limits their interaction with technology and associated equipment.
This will, I think, explain why they have chosen this route.

I hope this helps, I'd hate to see anyone accidentally cause offence by criticising their business plan which could be misunderstood as implying a criticism of their beliefs.

The "component parts" (product descriptions, photographs, prices) are the same in both cases.

Assembling those components is the major part of making either a PDF catalogue OR a website.

I disagree Mike, I could setup an OScommerce website for less than £400. The cost of CD replication and postage must have cost that alone.

But I guess Terry's explanation really solves this (rather weird) conundrum.
