Iv'e got a mini lathe with a 1" x 8tpi spindle thread, Record Power have a new mini scroll chuck which is ideal for my lathe, well I thought it was until I realised the spindle thread is 3/4" x 16tpi and I can't seem to find an adapter to convert my lathe. :x

The problem with using a thread adaptor assuming you can locate one Carl is that it will throw your chuck 1-1/1/2" forward and any runout due to mis-alignment will be amplified.

Generally not good engineering practice.

Thanks for the info CHJ I did'nt realise that.

This is because you are trying to go from large to small, (an exert?) if it was from small to large then there is a chance as long as the difference was great enough that the problem would be minimum, (an insert) but as the difference is only 1/4" and not enough to accommodate the two thread depths you would still have the same risks because it would need an exert.

I use an Axminster adapter on my Record RP4000 (3/4 x 16) to fit on my Axminster M330 (1 x 8) without any problem...

There you go Carl, if Grahams satisfied with the device from axminster for doing his work then you should be safe, nothing like having user to follow.

Hello Oldsoke,

I have had a look on Axminsters website and can't find the Axminster adapter that you mention, but I have come across a mini scroll chuck called a Barracuda which has a 1" x 8tpi, but the Record Power mini chuck looks a better chuck.
