You've seen the avatar :) so here's one or four pics of the planes. If your bib isn't tied up at the back to catch the drool, I suggest you make sure it's double knotted fairly smartly
Waka as we all know, is a fairly shy, retiring sort of bloke and wouldn't dream of the odd 'off the cuff, drive by gloat' here and there. Me and Pete had a run down to Dorset today and what do you know, those brass scratch stocks turn up everywhere

First pic shows the S&S planes together with Waka's two Norris smoothers, the second one being the Norris 'scrub' (cleaning cement off scaffolding boards and that sort of stuff) and the first is a real gem...an
unused smoother complete with box:

...and this pic shows another view from the other end of the bench:

and just to prove that the 2 thou mouth will produce shavings in Rosewood:

with the final shot of Waka's little shoulder plane, which Pete asked me to take a shot of (don't know why  ):

Martin was also there as well...many thanks for the gouge.
Incidentally, Waka mentioned in passing that this was the first time since Westonbirt that they'd been used. Fabulous :) - Rob

They are a truly stunning set of planes, and having had a go on Konrads A5 at Westonbirt I know they perform as well as they look. Well worth a day trip to have a go with a collection like that.

More importantly, when can we expect the Newton & Stoakley shoulder plane to appear?!

Cheers, Ed

Very nice 8) I also had a go with Konrad's planes at Westonbirt so I know how much you'll enjoy using those planes, Waka.

Cheers

   He actually used them on rough old wood

But!...... now they are not in mint condition they are only second hand   Oh dear! just what have you done? Can I put an offer in, now you've knocked a few quid off the value?

I really think Waka should make a glass fronted display case for these beauties, then add several locks to keep the door firmly shut to stop drool wrecking the polish on the infills.

PS.... best porn pics this year =D> =D> =D>

The planes were tested on a quality piece of rose wood, there are however some microscopic marks on the soles now    . The quality of the work, particularly the inserts is well, stunning. Newton & Stockley shoulder plane Hmmm if only I could find some brass :D .

That's a pretty impressive array - but the S&S planes are made to look a bit shoddy by that scratch stock!

The front knob of the big S&S planes has always intrigued me - you wouldn't normally choose a square shape to provide a comfortable grip, would you? But I guess you put the ball of your thumb behind it and just push rather than grip it with your whole hand?

As you all know I'm not a gloater and find it embarrassing that rob posted them.

It's not often that other than the 3 woodkateers visit so its always nice when they do. Personnally I had a wonderful day.

I have to say the highlight for me was the SS from Newt, what a lovely engineered piece and it works a treat. We did a comparison between the LN inlay tools and newts SS and I think we were all in agreement the newts SS came out on top.

As much as I'd like to put the planes in a glass cabinet and admire them, they were bought to be used, and use them I shall.

With that in mind I will be putting some of my other planes up for sale (don't want to be branded a collector as well) on the forum, so watch this. space.

So we're going to see Newt Toolworks launched by the end ot the year? ;)

I'll second that - mine arrived on Friday.

Nice planes Waka. Glad to hear they're gonna get used rather than "collected".

Cheers

Karl

Waka - really enjoyed the day and I know I can speak for Pete as well. It was also an opportunity to have a look at the new workshop extension which was also pretty impressive, so I think now that it's a very good set up you have there.
Lunch was also excellent, many thanks for that...going to have a go at that chicken dish  - Rob
