Far too many people here think its good to show examples of their gorgeous work. This is all well and good but the LOML sees them and I get "You could make me one like that". Followed by I have a birthday / anniversary / mothers day soon. I am sure this will ring true for many.

Such was the case when she saw the lovely candle holders posted here a while ago. Pressure was applied and below is the result is shown below.

The wood is two pieces of cherry glued together with a piece of alder glued to the sides. The finish is Dannish oil. Comments like "this would be a lot easier if I had a bandsaw" were ignored.

BTW. Only kidding, love to see peoples work.

So there it is. Think carefully before submitting pictures of work lest you too get the "you could do that" comment from SWMBO.

Very nice, Bob. Hmm, sides laminated to a central core? Man, you're half way to making a plane...

Incidentally, I think it's only right to point out that anyone reading this forum with any representative of TPTB looking over their shoulder has only themselves to blame.

Cheers, Alf

Hi bob

That looks lovely. What finish did you put on it.

I have to agree, I have a massive list aquired over many years of things my good lady has taken a liking too and feel I could just knock one up in a half hour or something.

Lovely. Well, I'm bound to like it aren't I?

You let the LOML even know you're a member of a wood forum

Nice work Bob, especially the sides. How did you cut the curves without a bandsaw?

Can I just say thank you for all the kind comments to my, somewhat tongue-in-cheek posting. :)

The curve on the top was in fact cut with a chisel. It took a long time but I really had no other option. I do not have a bandsaw and my jigsaw can not cut that deep, so I chiselled it out. That was of course followed by sanding, then some more sanding and finally some sanding.

The holes were drilled using a 45mm forstner bit bought from Axminster. I bought a standard bit from them initially but it did not cut very well. I sent them an e-mail asking for their recommendation and they sent me a sawtooth bit FOC. Excellent service.

Thanks again and keep the pictures coming. I just need to make sure I look at them alone.

Bob,

It looks great :D

I too was in a similar position also not so long ago. SWMBO saw the one in GoodWood that I think Adam did, and I was required to "knock one up" in zebrano. Not so well finished as yours......

Anyway, I shaped mine with a drum sanding thingy in a drill press - it took rather longer than I'd hoped for to get the shape right, but it did work OK. The sanding thing is a large(ish) sponge one from Screwfix that cost me less than a 10er I think.

Cheers,

Dod
