Thickness Guages for measuring guitar soundboards are pretty expensive. I’m thinking of making one by laminating beechwood and a metal reinforcement. Does this sound feasible? I’ll upload a photo of a commercial one. I’d like to get a decent result I could share with my student cohort.

Whilst I know absolutely nothing about instrument making, I do follow a violin maker, Graham Vincent, on the tube, (always wanted to try my hand at making one, doubtful) he has a very different approach to presentation and his work environment which is a refreshing change, I digress, in one of his vids he had a home made thickness gauge which looked basically, as best as I can describe, like a wooden scroll saw type arm with a wood screw he set, to make depth marks in the bodies of the violins.

Found it, link to his video at 9.42:

Might be useful and cheaper method.
