Now before we go any further I am not claiming to be any sort of metal worker.
I have been ribbing mates that delve into this dark world for years.
However,,,,,,,,,I have really enjoyed this :D :D

The welding is SH#T to look at I know but it is strong (first ever go with a MIG.)

This is a bit of fun and my lad has said he wants a scooter for his birthday(3rd.) Swmbo still wants to buy one and says that this is dangerous  no spirit of adventure.

That is the progress so far, Got some tyres on order from ebay, should be finished soon I will keep you all informed :D

That is great hehehehe my kids would love that. God knows how many of those cheap scooters we've gone through too, so i'm sure you'll save a few bob. Nice job mate.

Well it's official. A recent opinion poll in your local primary school shows you're a cool Dad! 8)

I remember my Dad making me a BMX when I was about 6 and I thought he was the dogs danglies. Absolutely loved that bike. When I upgraded to a Diamond Back, I was gutted and overjoyed at the same time.

You do need more practice with the welder tho :-s

Looks like fun, Think I would round over all those corners on the Tee section base as they could take a lump out of an ancle or shin.

Jason

Thanks guys :D :D
I am glad you like the look of it.
Fair point about thoses corners, I will have a go with the grinder when the respary is required, pipe laging untill then.
The colour is a little kasawacki, I know. The reasons will become clear when it is finished.

Your mig welds look like the wire feed was a bit too fast. If they are strong but not pretty some isopon or similar car filler will soon sort out the appearance :)

Still waiting for an excuse here to get a mig welder myself.

If kids can do something stupid with it to hurt themselves they will so I'd put some effort into making sure the edges are safe.

Looks a fun project all round. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Thanks Rob, I will have a look at the rate for the next project

Here we are then the scooter is finished. On time for his birthday last weekend and he loves it, everyone is happy.

The next mucky project is a BBQ, hopfully on with next week.

That scooter looks amazing :!: :!: :!: i Like the way the chequer plate matches the wheel colour. I'd be proud to own that bad boy 8)

Simon

A few minutes with an angle grinder would have made those welding seams much easier on the eye, but i bet the young one is well chuffed with his new scooter, and i have a feeling so is his dad :D

Very nice work!

That looks great Rich, bet he loves zooming around on it.

It`ll keep you fit as well.... Running after him,

Cheers.

Doug.

More Dads with guts should do this sort of project...this is exactly what cements a father/son relationship without spoiling them...

I remember my Dad taking a pristine Swan pram my Mum put in the loft for grand kids and hacking the wheels off it to make a go-cart...we loved that go kart.

You have made a superb job of that one Rich...superb!

You should be rightfully proud

Jimi

The only suggestion I would make is to round off all sharp corners especially those of the front part of the deck by the wheel.

Every welder in the world starts off by producing welds like that, its just a matter of practice.

One point that is frequently overlooked even by long in the tooth welders is always ensure that you have a good earth. Clean the job and replace the earth clamp or cable if its looking tired. A good clue is if the earth cable is getting hot or the clamp sparking or smoking on the longer weld runs.

Gareth, metal mangler for far too long now.
