My tail end piece (for lathe) is damaged, does anyone know if the spike can be knocked out (the tool is hollow) came with my Axminster M333 lathe.

I have given it some gentle taps up the inside of tube with that knock out tool but I didnt want to completely ruin it if its fixed.

Look and see if there is a grub screw on the side. Mine has one that, when loosened allows the spike to come out. If it's the round bit that's damaged then I don't know. Can't really see in the image, looks like the spike.

The whole thing unscrews off the morse taper then comes to bits ( I think it is a left hand thread to stop it unscrewing in use)

that said i dont know whether you can get replacement parts or for that matter whether it would be economical to do so.

These ones that come with the lathe are never much cop. I'd be inclined to bin it and buy the much superior axminster live revolving centre http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... -21297.htm

Hi Devonwoody,

The easiest thing to do would be to put it in your headstock, tape it up so it can't revolve and re-turn the point with a parting tool (in scraping mode is usually best)

If no good follow BSM's advice and bin it. I like this revolving centre:

Gets a lot of use and stands upto it very well. Highly recommended!!

I just bought a 60-Deg Live centre from CHRONOS e-bay shop, £12 + a couple for carriage.

Nicely made, and a decent bit of kit.

Its another option  :D

HTH
