Hello I'm new to forum.
I'm a bench joiner and I work alone. Thought this could be a good place to share ideas and get advice etc. I have a question already, does anyone out there have experience of using a sliding carriage on a surface planer for tenoning?

The only purpose built surfacer that I know has this facility is the multico, it also has a spur on the edge of the block to facilitate clean shoulders. no scribe facility though

I had some experience using someone's planer set up some time ago.
We decided that although it was ok using the planer, the shoulders need cutting first and there was a small amount of "break out" at the end of the cut and put this down to having a more "sheer" or angled knife setting in the tenoner.
Having said that, If you have the set up, try it out and see what works for you.
It could work out very well.
Regards Rodders

I've not seen the carriage before but I did have a 9" multico with the scribes on the end of the block (it made nice clean rebates!)

The carriage would need a good accurate stop as you'll have to do one cheek at a time unless its a barefaced tenon or whatever. I'm sure any break out can be sorted out with a backing piece?

I wonder if the shavings choke up the planer? The shavings from old tenoner blocks are brilliant at blocking extraction systems.

Thanks for the responses. It is a multico 9" planer which I just bought from eBay. When I picked it up, the seller offered me sliding carriage for another 30quid. I initially refused it, however, I think I'll give it a go now. Cheers!
