Hi all
Can anyone point me in the right direction of a supplier of bandsaw bearings. I've finally got round to a much closer inspection of my second hand Elektra Beckum 315 and it definitely needs new side bearings and a thrust bearing. I'd post a picture but my daughter's run off with the camera and it would also be rather embarrassing too
Many thanks in advance!
Cheers

Most bearings will have a number on the side, if you look in yellow pages etc for your lacal bearing stockist they should have no problem supplying what you need, if you can't see the number then take the bearings along with you.

Thanks for the tip, Jason. As you can see from the picture there's not much left of this bearing!

Bit of a newbie question but does the bearing come off the shaft?

Am I likely to be able to get thrust bearings from a regular bearings supplier?

Cheers

Stewart, I got my last ones from Simply Bearings

You may find that they are a standard 6082Z (8X22X7mm) bearing which are a popular size for skate boards etc.

I use the more expensive type 6082rsrOn my SIP Machine with rubber seals which prevent the dust from fouling the race better than the metal shielded versions.

These may not be the cheapest supplier but I have found them prompt and obliging.

And Yes the bearing should press off the shaft.

If you can't find the bearing part No. Just Check your bearing sizes and type them into the search box on this site and it should come up with a part No. which will be good across all suppliers and manufactures.

Hi Stewart,

I've got the same machine and got my replacement bearings from a supplier on Ebay - very cheap. I'll post the numbers and supplier in an hour or so when I open the workshop.

Thanks Chas and Mark
Nice site Chas - have been browsing it for a few minutes.
Mark, thanks for the offer of the part numbers.
I'll get ordering when I have it - or shall I nick them out of my son's skateboard, ummm.....
Cheers

Stewart,

For cheap replacements you'll need 3 of these (top side and lower thrust bearings), and 1 of these (top thrust bearing).

They're easy to change, just gently tap out the spindle being careful to only apply force to the 2 adjacent bits, i.e. support the inner ring of the bearing when removing and replacing the spindles otherwise the force is transmitted through the balls which may damage the race. For the large upper thrust bearing I put mine in the freezer for a bit then applied a blowtorch to the outer casing (gently , but quickly before the rest of the assembly warms up) and it should more or less just drop off, then remove the spindle as per the others.

I didn't know you could get rubber sealed ones, if they're not too expensive I think I may try those next time.

Hope this helps
Mark
