Hi,

I'm just in the process of fitting out my workshop and thought I'd spend a little money getting things organised. In this respect Sundealer Board seems a useful material, but I've had to pick myself up having priced it. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative, which is still as versatile or does anyone know where I could source it at a reasonable price near Lancaster.

Thanks

Sundeala exterior grade really is about £40 + VAT per sheet at present and comes in 8 x 4ft sheets, 12mm thick - all I've ever used it for is pinboards as it actually has very poor insulating qualities. You can get the cheaper Sundeala K grade for interior use, but even that is £28 + VAT a sheet. So the question has to be why do you need Sundeala? If all you want is a cheap insulating board look for Celotex (otherwise known as something like "cream faced insulating board") which is normally under £7 + VAT a sheet. I don't think it will be too durablke in an unheated exterior environment, however. If you want to insulate a shed, though, wouldn't Rockwool between the studs then face the lot off with MR-MDF, cheap shuttering plywood or foil/plastci-backed plasterboard be both cheaper and provide better insulation? Or for a "one-hit" solution something like or Kingspan insulated drylining (plasterboard with insulation material on the back)?

If you do want Celotex-style insulating board I know that Berry's in Leyland (Tel. 01772 431216) stock it (one of the few these days)

Thanks Scrit,

I was thinking of using as Peg Boards, never got organised before and it just seems versatile for this use. Sundeala K seems a good solution is this also 12mm Thick. Will Berry's stock this ?? Thanks for help

If it's just for organising why not buy pegboard hardboard? That way you can buy standard hook fittings or Terry's spring clips (Screwfix) to organise your stuff. Comes in smaller sheets than 8 x 4ft and even local DIY shops/ironmongers tend to have some knocking about.

You can also get steel pegboard - try a retail shop fittings firms for new or second hand stock (like Shopfitting Supplies in Preston, although they aren't the cheapest) - and the mechanics/engineering hand tool companies generally do it as well (I had some from DWU-Belzer/Dowidat years ago), even Stanley is in on the act (from Halfords):

Berry's are the Sundeala distributors and are one of the few firms I know who carry stock (the other is Lawcris in Leeds), although they also stock lots of other sheet materials

I used quite a lot of Sundeala K in my previous job - but only for pin boarding where it seems to go on forever. After years of pinning it still held pins securely. Otherwise it was pretty hopeless being quite weak. Exposed edges for example soon suffer. So good for pinning up notes, drawings, to do lists etc but pegboard is probably better for hanging storage.

I can recommend 18mm chipboard (std grade stuff) for lining stud walled workshop. It's thick enough and strong enough to hold up most things screwed to it and it's dirt cheap.

cheers,
