I'm off to sunny Suffolk next week and may be at a loose end for a few afternoons.

Remind me where I might go to speed my trip down the slope.

Classic Hand Tools is down that way, that'll grease your slope faster than a greasy weasel :)

Classic Hand Tools have a Woodturning Day at Alder Carr Farm on Sunday 28th October

You mean Tony Murland's auction?

Did you find out when it is then?

"End of the Month" - the 29th?
We've been unable to get a catalogue, so not completely sure.

Hmm... I'm beginning to see why Mike (of CHT) rolled his eyes when I asked him what he knew about it earlier this year.

Thanks Dick.

They’re not to hot on dates, my catalogue has the date of the sale as “Wednesday, October 23rd 2007” ………….:)

That'll be today, er.. I mean yesterday er.... I mean.......

With that level of organisation and publicity you've got to wonder if they actually manage to buy or sell anything :?
Has anybody ever been to one of Tony's auctions? Was it worth the efffort of tracking down the schedule?

I used to go regularly to Murland's auctions and occasionally to David Stanley's. They are definitely worth a trip just to drool if nothing else. There are usually some very good tools to be had, either in the auction or from the sellers in the carpark. Prices range from reasonable to astronomic with nothing very cheap but the range of stuff on offer usually exceeds by far what you will see in most other places where old tools are sold - including Tony Murland's shop. He has very little there and keeps all the decent stuff for the auctions.

Thanks Chris, shame we didn't have this conversation a couple of days ago, I could've swung by there on my way back from Northants today. Mind you I don't think I would have got away with a long winded visit as I had my eight year old daughter in tow - she described DaveL's bash as a "sad old man's show and tell" - seems she does pay attention to her mother after all.
