Hi,

This isn’t my lathe but I have an amount of custody of it.

This dial is stuck and I wondered if anyone had any advice on unsticking it please!

I have tried a bit of tapping with a mallet.

I have found the manual online and it’s no help but no surprise.

I suspect it could be a dismantle job but that’s a major undertaking and I’m not too keen on the idea from a time and space point of view.

Is there anything else to try?

Thanks!

It controls the screwcutting gearbox, which also interacts with the power feeds.

Switch off the lathe, engage the clutch and rock/rotate the spindle back and forth a little bit while applying pressure to the knob. It might then drop into place. You could also try the same trick but rocking either the leadscrew or the feed rod or both.

If not, then dismantling to identify the source of the problem is about the only option.

There is a Colchester lathes group at groups.io . Someone there will likely have the same model and would be able better to advise.
