Does anyone/has anyone incorporated stringing inlaid into their projects? How and what type of project?

Here's a small table I made some years ago. It has an inlay of ebonised wood on the top. It was where I learnt only to use real ebony for inlay as scraping the ebonised stuff makes it grey rather than staying black as real ebony does.

Stringing can be a lifesaver in some circumstances when you screw up a joint and want to disguise it. I confess to using it like that more than once..

This is a small table top I've made, click the picture to see bigger, I've used string on the outside of the legs and at the base.

Hi Tony
I've used stringing in my bedroom suite, around the oval kevasingo against a maple background. It's good for defining edges and whilst care is needed, it's not intrinsically difficult.

If you have tight curves to follow, though, it's worth pre-bending it. Soak it in water for a few minutes, put it on a strip of making tape to support the fibres, and then bend it round a hot iron pipe. It works a treat, just like bending a Windsor only smaller!

Great article, Rob - just read it. C.E-E had that chisel that he ground down for cleaning out the grooves, on his bench at the D&M show - very neat. You could make a couple of those to fill the two holes in your chisel rack........ :)

Cheers

I have some inlay articles coming in F&C.

Used to grind the top end of a cutting gauge blade as a hag's tooth router, to level the bottom of the groove.

Thanks all

I fancy doing some veneer stringing but can't really decide when to use it as I mainly see it used (over the top) in feceral style furniture which I find exceedingly ugly in mnay cases
