Krysstel,
Sorry I missed the shaker style bit...more haste less speed in that case.
I'll have a look round and see what I can find.
regards
Alan

Krysstel,

Not exactly the same but sort of similar

http://www.woodworkersworld.net/stile_rail_bits.shtml

Other than that you have maybe two options
1) Get some Spindle moulder tooling made and either get someone else to make it up for you or do it yourself if you have a spindle
2) Buy from America.

Interestingly the profile is basically a T&G woth a sloping profile at the top rather than the 90 degree profile. Could you make this up from a combination of bits.

regards
Alan

Alan

Pity dovetail cutters are not quite the right angle isn't it?

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Really surprised this profile isn't available anywhere in the UK.
Before I order from the US; does anyone have experience of Eagle America ? They seem to have all kings of tempting goodies on there site !

Some years ago I was looking at these type of cutters and then backed off because they can be very wide. I seem to remember they would not go through the aperture of my router table.

The one I'm looking at is 1,5/8" (41mm) diameter. Shouldn't be a problem so long as I can get the smallest ring out of my insert plate !

You should try

www.toolstoday.com

they are based in America and do ship internationally, I have used them on a regular basis and are good to deal with.

I did not think that Shaker had bevels on the doors or panels within their designs, they tend to have square edges on their designs, from all the shaker books that I have about 15 books on shaker furniture designs and life styles, I have been to 3 Shaker villages in America to look at the way they lived and the Furniture they made in great detail.

It's such a bugger finding anything in the UK i find. I end up ordering a lot from the usa and canada unfortunately.

Being from canada i have seen many shaker doors and non of them had a bevel on them. But i do like the look of the bit set you got. Did you get them to send it as a gift so you don't have to pay the VAT and the Charge for charging the VAT?

Didn't even think of suggesting the "gift" angle. And as we speak they're on hold after they came back with a shipping quote of $37 for an order of $137. I've asked for a requote only for the stile & rail set but will probably go ahead regardless of shipping cost since they appear to be impossible to get in the UK. I havn't even tried here in Norway !
Incidentaly, vat here is 25% and on import is due on the purchase price + shipping. A handling fee of about £10 comes on top.

I've been looking over two years K. Nothing that suggests "Shaker" is how I see Shaker - even the 15° bevel. Should be as plain as anything and straight. But perhaps I'm wrong

OK, ok, it's not a Shaker, just a 15 deg bevel stile & rail cutter.
I promise never to use the term Shaker ever again in connection with this thread :D

I suspect the Shaker and Amish communities would see bevels as decoration and why the latter have hidden fasteners and not ornate buttons on their clothesies (clothsies is a Gollumesque term for clothes  )
