There is a set of cutters, fence and screws for a #71 on eBay. For over £35.

I only paid £28 for my near-perfect 71 and that was on the high side, I thought. Can anyone enlighten me as to the value of these items?

Smudger, that's very expensive - as you have found yourself, you can buy a complete #71 for less. I believe that either the Veritas or Lie Nielsen cutters will fit - not sure which. They might be a better buy if you want additional cutters. And you could probably make yourself a fence from a bit of metal and a screw. You need to save some money anyway if you are going to buy a Record scrub plane

Cheers

Smudger, Paul,

The LN cutters won't fit, but the LV will do. Some guys or gals even fit in ground allen keys (hex tip screwdrivers) as I heard from down under :)

Is that an "Ended" price, or the opening price - has anyone actually BID at that (rather high...) level?

Allen key's make good blades, this is the approach I took, worked better than expected and was relatively easy to do.
