Hi all,

I'm trying to sort out an old Stanley 60 1/2, not the G12-060, the duff bit is the adjusting screw. The thin end is stripped which is apparantly quite common. Now I think I found one on the American Stanley site but my message was highjacked by the Stanley UK team, who of course cannot help.

Luckily I have found a small quantity of bolts which will fit the adjusting slider, 1/4" BSF I think, anyway it runs in the thread well enough to make me believe it is correct.

Can anyone tell me what the thread at the thin end is? It should not be too difficult to reduce the diameter of the bolt and re-thread it.

Thanks in advance.

Ok!

A bit of research, and some maths, later.

At the moment my own assessment is that the thread in question is 7/32" BSF. Of course it has yet to be proven.

Any advance on this?

No advance. But I need one of those screws too. Although I have been using my 60 1/2 for some years without it without too much bother.

But if you find 2 by accident.....

Cheers

Neil

PS I have my eyes open for one at the tool auctions coming up so will try and find 2 myself. Is it likely to be the same size thread as the ones in the normal angle block (is it a 9 1/2??)?

neilyweely hi!,

As luck would have it the is a chap on Ebay selling 7/32" BSF dies at £3.49. Postage extra of course, but his 'phone number is within range of me.

I need to do more checks on the diameter, and figure out how to do that. I have measured the inside diameter of the threaded hole with a dial vernier gauge and the size looks correct, but I would like another check.
The pitch I measured with a screw pitch guage after driving a slim pencil in. 28tpi was the result and the only thread with that pitch is 7/32" BSF. I am fairly certain of the thread but will not be satisfied until there is no doubt.

In the middle of next week I go abroad for a fortnight so little is going to happen before mid June at this end.

I do know that the thread is a drive fit into the knurled knob on the end so it should be possible to fit a suitable screw.

As I said earlier I have four, or five, bolts which fit the bent steel blade locator and intend modifying one of these for myself. I can see no problem doing a second for you, given that I can make it happen of course.
