Don't know if this has already been posted but just saw this:

Chems, looks interesting with a fixed frog and A2 blade, any idea of the price.

That price seems low for a premium plane. Anyone know where they are made? If they are made in the USA, then it looks like they are selling them cheap to gain market share or maybe they are made in the Far East to keep costs down.

Cheers

The bodies are made in Mexico, and the A2 irons are made in the UK

The body is a one part casting, as opposed to having a seperate frog, which makes sense, as the poorly machined interface between the body and frog is/was a major issue with standard Stanley planes.

I've yet to find a full review of these planes though, so can't comment on how good they are. Anybody fancy sending me one to review

Cheers

I agree Paul does seem a bit cheap, but is does look ok. We do need a review. I guess the reduction in machining with a fixed frog, is countered but the machining of the adjustable mouth, we will have to see how well that is done.

Be particularly interesting to see if the adjustable mouth is fashioned like a normal Stanley or an LN 60 !/2 - ie readily deformable by over tightening the lock screw or with the extra sagital bearing surface.

(Well, it would be except I've got enough metal bench planes)

Hi

I posted these in a previous thread but was bought these for a birthday pressie to be handed over st the weekend. I am not really qualified to do a review as these are my first decent planes but anyone in the Watford area is very welcome to come and have a go.

All the more reason to do a review. IMO

Fair point and I will try to do one in the next week or so. I guess what I was trying to say was I was not well placed to compare with any other types of plane (other than a really horrible B&Q special). I have never used LN,LV, old Stanley/Record and most of my tools have tails.

Once they are in my grubby hands I will do my best.

Darn, they are out already? How long they have been available?

I've been working on my review/test for those:

...and now I would have to start all over again.... It would be interesting to compare it with the others, but I don't think I would buy yet another plane to the test. Even if it would really be interesting to get all of them on the bench at the same time.

I thought they were still just a designer's dream as they had been talking about the planes for ages with no actual progress.

The review is going on pretty well, but it still takes at least a few weeks before I have time to translate anything.

How is the handle fixed on - I can see a brass disc which is (presumably) involved, but nothing else.

The picture of the plane on its side shows that the screw is inserted through the bottom of the casting and up the handle to the brass cross-dowel.

Cheers
