Hi All,
I've almost finished making a staircase and just started to think about the finish. It's in Oak and I'd like to see the grain hence no stain. What finish would you use? On furniture I've made I've used Liberon finishing oil and nothing else. The finish is ok, but I'd like better than that. Would a sanding sealer before the oil make any difference? Any advice would be gratefully received.
Also, as I have the staircase in bits at the moment would it be better to out the finish on now or after assembly? The only advantage I see putting it on after assembly is that I'm screwing and plugging in places and the plugs will have to be sanded, which will damage the finish around the plugs and subsequent touching up may show?!
