Spear & Jackson Chisel Logo

I've got this Spear & Jackson chisel, but what's the logo? Is it a seahorse on its side?

One side is stamped with the logo and:
"Spear & Jackson
Sheffield"

The other side has "England". SP and JA are just about readable on the remains of the handle label.

It's a a Mermaid.

Interesting - I've only ever seen the Mermaid branding on saws 'til now.

I do wonder how effective it ever was at building "brand recognition" - I thought it might be a gun!

I've seen another S&J chisel with the mermaid logo. It had the mermaid on one side but on the other it had "Spear & Jackson" and the S&J crown logo.
