I have a record plough plane which works fine but I'm looking for spare parts for it as I use it a lot - in particular spare scoring spurs / screws as I'm sure I'll loose them some day, and I guess spare depth gauge etc. as it is likely to get bent somehow some day.

Whilst I'm on the look out for old planes like this where I can take spares, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good source of spare spurs / screws for these planes?

On the basis that they are easily lost (as you say!) and that nobody is making them any more, I think you are going to have to make your own. Apparently all you need is a bit of scrap steel (eg hacksaw blade,) pliers to hold it and files/Dremel type grinder. (Not that I've got round to trying yet.)

When I needed one I managed to find a screw to fit the knicker holder amongst my collection of salvaged ones, so I think that at least is going to be a standard thread (Imperial size, prob BSW or BSF).

And a depth gauge is pretty easy to make as well.

...if the Stanley ones fit a Record these might do?:
I bought some of these and they don't even fit the Stanley #78  I have plenty of filing to do (at least they're too big, not too small).

I assume your plough plane is the 050, which has just a single lug, so you'll have even more filing to do. It might be easier just to start with a thin piece of steel, but if you do purchase from Stanley's website - they're quick and shipping is cheap - just don't expect to get exactly what you see in the illustration...

Cheers, Vann.

many thanks for that, I've just sent you a pm with my contact details in.

I bought some spurs for a record multi plane some time back but alas I forget who from.
Perhaps on the many suppliers who deal with Clifton (who still make a multiplane) might be able to help you.

Penny Farthing Tools generally have a stock of old plane parts?
Maybe worth a ring?
