Back in the summer, Chisel very kindly let me have some pieces of spalted sycamore that he'd converted and air dried, so I'm making this little box (after the style of JK) as one of my daughter's Christmas presents:

Lid is panelled and the handle will be carved and sculpted out of the front rail, not added on at a later date. Base is a couple of bandsawn veneers onto some very thin birch ply:

I've cut the tails and have just marked out and cut the pins...bit of chiseling to do next - Rob

The jointing for the box went together well, inside has been polished with shellac and wax, base has been glued into the rebate. Lid to do next - Rob

Nice box and nice work.

I love working with spalted wood as it gives such interesting figuring. One of my own recent boxes used a combination of spalted maple and spalted cherry. I wish I had more of the cherry as it looks fabulous, but I only had one tiny piece about 12" x 3" that I resawed to get a 12x6 piece from.
