Hi All,

Actually got a break in the snow to get to the workshop last night. Its quite a tight fit unfortunatly. It was tight before sanding, and i assumed would loosen up then, but think my finish filled it out again. Its neither a pop-off or a drop offf - more a hammer-off !

( I did also loose soem middle due to an error - so lost some of the grain line up )

Thanks Loz

Very nice Loz :D
I like the shape and the finish looks good.
Depending how tight the lid is,and how wet/dry the wood is you might get some shrinkage so the lid might be a better fit.

Boxes are hard to get right IME but this looks good. You have done well keeping the grain aligned. My only suggestion would be to have the join matching the two coves.

Loz

nice job , I like it the shape look Egyptian to me

You could make a jam chuck out of a bit of scrap and re mount the lid / base and shave a bit off to make the lid a better slide fit

Thanks for that - I think i will, although i always worry about remounting finished peices !!!

Good job Loz :D the grain alignment looks good to me :) . The half a dozen or so boxes I've made before all seem to get looser lids after a while anyhow,so the tight fit will most likely turn into a nice fit in a week or two 8)

A Little beauty, Loz ...
very impressive !

What finish did you use ?

Great looking Box...both in shape and choice of wood to make it from.

8) 8) 8) :D :D :D

Thanks !!!

Its sanding sealed, then beeswax, brought out a more yellowish than the normal pinkish my other bits of beech have been.

( i did friction polish it, but im still having issues with bits of paper getting glued in !!! - so was taken back down and redone with wax. )

LOZ, Nice piece better shape than mine mind you Tessy O'shea had a better shape than mine, and they called her Two Ton.
Tell you what There are a few places on the Richard Raffen show at 40 euro for the day if you come down we can swap lids mine are the same as yours . REgards Boysie.

Nice piece Loz,
If it wasn't from the same wood as the others, it was maybe unsteamed.
It's the steaming that causes the pinkness in Beech.

Thanks John,

I wasn't aware steaming would do that. !

Boysie,

If i wasnt going on holiday then i would be down to you !!!!

Great work, as I would expect. :D I turned a little box the other day, with some iron work. I then made a lid for inside the box. Same wood just not quite in the same cut. I'll put it on a new post Friday, with pic's. :)

Hi Loz,
Well done on this piece. Lovely wood shown off well by the turning.
I'm currently in the process of making my first box. I'll be chuffed with a tight fit!

Yes its a shame , he has never posted photos of his work ?
Does not even put his location in his profile ?
normally makes negative comments ?
that draw the attention of most people ?
Still perhaps he has a big list of forums set up as favourites on his PC and gets off when he winds people up

Still just lately he does seen to be having a relapse , only time will tell :?
