Looking through some resent photos I thought I might share this project that I completed last month, a space saver type stairs with a bit of glass balustrade and at the top with bookcase built under as you can hopefully see it was a bit tight for space to put it all together.

Made from American Ash, Ash veneered MDF for the bookcase the veneering done post lipping and stair risers and glass panels held in place with wooden clamps.

Looks good Chrispy,
Do you know if there is a maximum angle these can be build or do you know where you can get recommended dimensions as this is like a non-standard item. Cheers Danny

Yes there is a max angle! you need to draw it up to understand the maths, the going/rise is the same a standard stairs but every other tread is left out as it were so the overall going is half the normal hummmm as said you need to draw it to understand.

Excellent job! This is the dog's go nads in the stair design and build department.
Were they you're plans or customers spec?
Regards Rodders

They look good Chrispy. I imagine going up isn't much different to a standard staircase but coming down could spook somebody who has vertigo

Yes, they do take a bit of getting used to, more like a ladder than a stair and you really do need the handrail, not very good when carrying stuff up and down, but then again these stairs don't really go anywhere, if you look closely they don't even reach the top floor! there just wasn't the room for any more.

Wow, precise. Thank you whiskywill. I was going for 61 degrees as thats what most ready made ones seemed to go for but 63.34 degrees is even better.
Danny

would it matter which side the tread boards are at? I notice on yours you've set them so when you climb the steps you lead with your left leg, I'm right handed and naturally would lead with my right leg?

I know what you mean, I made this this way round because it gave more room at the bottom to clear the door into the room as it opened, there was a bit of space sharing going on! but in fact it doesn't really seem to matter either way.

There's a really good UK website called stairbox where you can design the stairs online and see these statistics. Useful for DIY, or to buy theirs and then adjust.
