Source of good quality brass screws?

That size is sold many places, like Screwfix etc… gimlet your holes and add wax. If you keep breaking them, you are probably doing it wrong

Them brass jobbies from Screwfix, to my mind, are not upto scratch in terms of high quality. You take a proper old screw and its colour is like 'rose gold' not bright and shiny. Nettlefords were the boys to go to or perhaps a yacht chandlery if you are near the sea/coast.

I wonder now whether this is really worthwhile - it worked with old mild steel slotted screws - the threads were identical. I suspect a pilot hole, some lube and a suitable screwdriver is as good.

I have a box of 12 x 1 1/4 inch GKN brass slotted countersunk screws if you still need some. They were from a college that closed down at least 40 years ago.
