I started turning it a while ago. Not sure what the wood is but I might use it as pot for wooden spoons or something so I'd like to know if it's food safe. I have a feeling it's possibly black walnut or laburnum but I haven't worked with either before so I can't be sure.

Looks like laburnum with the massive change of colour from heart to sapwood

Also laburnam sapword tends to be riddled with woodworm. But it always stops at the heart wood, maybe too hard or they dont like the taste.

laburnum is the most likely, though is looks a little dull, Laburnum often has a very gold glow especially where the medullary rays are visible, but like any wood, that varies. it could possibly be False acacia too (Robinia) they are quite similar.
