Did something different this time.

Didn’t do my usual WIP I thought you might tire of them so posting a completed box project (usual, awaiting a finish to be applied tho) I’ve done this week.

I put a piece of lacewood (silky oak?) to the bandsaw as per picture and managed a perfect 13mm thickness that cleaned up on the P/T. This time I am using a ½” 3 tpi blade but it is .025 thick and holds its sharp edge a considerable time, (started using it last year) They do however make their presence known when you install them on the bandsaw, you do have to be firm with them compared with those thinner type blades.

Also put a piece of ash through the B/S because it had the bark still attached and so I followed the sapwood line. (this piece was an 18mm thick plank, so did not require a resaw)

The pictures below show three boxes made using a SCMS saw again to do the mitres because I have still not got a perfect technique for doing the joints on the router.

The boxes have been laid on a batten base rebated to accommodate their positions and after finish has been applied they will be screwed in position.

I have shown a piece of ash going into the P/T to demonstrate how I plane short lengths so they do not foul on exit from the machinery . I place a longer length of thinner batten at the side of the plate and this keeps the thicker ash piece from colliding with anything inside the tunnel which has happened on some previous occasions then causing the timber to swing and mar the finish of timber.
