Some wooden planes

A picture of some wooden planes I am making for myself. I thought this might provide some inspiration to someone.

The blades are still not hardened nor sharpened and the wood will be finished with boiled linseed oil.



The wider plane will produce a moulding that I found on the original window sills in a farmhouse built sometimes around 1810.
The narrower plane will produce my version of a common late 19th century moulding.

Great to see tools being made to restore old buildings...it kinda goes together in my mind!

The wood is home grown birch for the bodies and beech for the soles. Beech is too expensive for making the whole body out of it. The blades are made from worn out flat files.

Excellent looking planes, do you have any WIP photos of there construction?

Also will you be hardening the blades yourself?

A friend who is a skilled hobby blacksmith will harden the blades for me.

No I have not taken any pictures during the process. Though I plan to make more planes in the next few weeks so the opportunity is still there.
