Not my first goes by any means, but my first real pieces for a while.

The Bowl is Elm,

The Candle holder (for that is what it is) is Walnut (I think)

sorry for the shaky photos[/img]

A different perspective on grain pattern in the Elm Dave, what diameter are we looking at? I guess about 160mm. I would go along with Walnut for the holder.

Hi Dave, couple of nice pieces. The bowl 'Wych' Elm perhaps, with the green colour in it. Getting quite rare these days.

The walnut is nice, but another vote for the elm from me :D
Grain and colouring looks lovely.

I didn't measure it till you asked the question, but 160mm is about right. impressed you could tell that from the picture.

And thanks to all for the positive comments, I didn't realise how nerve racking putting this stuff in the public domain to see would be.

As to the Elm, all it said on the label was Elm - I assumed the green was mold? I bought this blank, and a bunch of others from a place in the lake district called "The Alpaca Centre" http://www.thealpacacentre.co.uk/ they had a really well stocked warehouse full of some lovely home grown and exotic woods - completely in the middle of nowhere! It's amazing what you find on Holiday isn't it!
