Been doing some small jobs this week to get caught up a bit.
This is going to be a panel for a WC and cupboard for a cloakroom. Veneers have been prepared to about 100mm wide and the veneers chosen from a few different places from the pack so that the panel looks more like solid walnut pieces. The veneers will flow across all the panels. I sometimes inlay with solid wood where the joins are but tests showed that once oiled the join was acceptable in mdf
First job after pressing was to put a chamfer detail between the joins in the veneer using a 45 degree engraving cutter
Everything was going well until disaster struck and I forgot to take out a spacer jig against the straightedge and the groove was in the wrong place.
As the veneers had all been prepared and they run across 3 panels it was decided to try and repair it. A simple jig was constructed and using a 50mm straight cutter the veneer was removed with the router to the correct depth
Bit nerve wracking but it worked the panel was then re pressed with the same veneer which luckily was some spare available
The panels need to be removable so I used the biscuit jointer for some knock down connectors
First bit ready for installation
Cheers
