I'm putting shelves into an alcove and would like to scribe them into the two side walls. I have a shelf currently wider than the space between the side walls so it obviously doesn't go in so that I can scribe either end. I can't see how to do it short of scribing a short piece in at each end and the back then joining them with battens to get the whole outline and using that as a template.
How do you gifted chaps do it?
Thanks
Martin

Or use a joggle stick. There was athread about them a couple of years ago. I'd never heard of them before but they do work well. shows how it works although he doesn't fix his cardboard- you can see it move at one point. Also, I don't think you need nearly so many notches in your stick

+1 for the joggle stick. Used one to fit out my campervan build and it did the job a treat.

Any shape with a point will do as long as you can tell the two sides apart
