I've gained some experience with my first router, which is a large Ryobi 3HP model borrowed from a friend. Whilst it's powerful and unstoppable in a router table it couldn't be described as delicate and I often feel like I'm riding it, rather than controlling it. It's ergonomics leave a lot to be desired and it's just too much for most of the small jobs I want do (trimming and rounding over edges). I'm looking now for the first router I'll actually buy.
The trend T4 looks tempting but I suspect that it may be too much of a compromise, and is more of a laminate trimmer with a plunge base. Instead I've been eying up the Dewalt D26204K which comes with both plunge and fixed bases, which looks more like a small heavier duty router which can also be used as a laminate trimmer.
It looks like being able to remove the router from the bases allows for easy changing of bits, and the fixed base and it's twisting height adjustment looks like it could work well as part of a smaller router table without needing a lift.
Anyone used this router or a previous incarnation?
